Get The Best From Your Printer
The quality of the print of the download label may vary greatly depending on a number of factors. Here are a few tips to get a good quality print of your bottle label.
- Set the highest resolution print quality. Try changing the various settings your printer makes available. In particular, look to set the highest dots-per-inch (DPI) setting available to you. We recommend 600 DPI or greater or "Best".
- Use a colour laser printer if you can. By-and-large, a color laser printer produces a better quality label than an inkjet printer with much less likelihood of the ink running or smuging when afixing the label to the bottle. Taking or emailing the print file to a commercial print shop is also an alternative to consider.
- Use new ink or toner. Ink jet printers are usually the most troublesome in this respect. If your printer has a self-cleaning routine (check the manual) you should use it regularly. Although inkjet or toner cartridges are generally not designed to be re-used, many types can be refilled, but some refill inks are of inferior quality.
- Use good quality paper. Paper quality is very important. Cheap copier paper tends to be more absorbent and the ink runs - particularly with cheap refill ink. Glossy paper, designed for use with colour inkjet printers can give excellent, near photographic results, although it is a little more expensive. Printing onto self-adhesive label paper is also an excellent alternative. Choose glossy white (NOT transparent) paper as the label design assumes a white background.
